DSLR Assistant is camera control software that can control a Canon EOS digital camera from a Mac. The remote connection is through USB or Firewire cable.
DSLR Assistant is an application which lets you connect a EOS family DSLR through USB or Firewire and control just about everything in a photo taking process. The Mac is able to set resolution, shutter speed and aperture, white balance, ISO, metering modes. You could, of course set these values at the camera too but in many environments, setting it at the computer screen may be convenient. Particularly when you want to shoot the photo remotely, view it and then store on the local HDD. This way, you are able to verify that the lighting, exposure, focus and all the necessary settings are just right for the photo taken. You can arrange to name the photos automatically and then get them organized as they are stored in the drive.
For time lapse series of shootings you can set the time interval that should be used between shots and a series of photos would be taken automatically. RGB and individual channel histograms are shown on the interface so that you can immediately decide if the tonal quality is the way you wanted it! The interface will also highlight, focus points on shots taken. That enables an overlay that highlighting focus points used by the camera when recording the picture. You can thus make sure the right parts are in focus. The DSLR assistant is able to extract EXIF information from the cameras taking the pictures. The assistant is able to automatically highlight the areas that are over-exposed. It is then easy to balance the photo. It runs on Mac computer with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and supports a range of the EOS cameras from Canon.
